Mia Gjerdrum Helgesen (b. 1971) works with painting, sculptures in wood, bronze and marble, textiles and graphics. She attaches great importance to the interaction between artist and material, which she describes as follows: “Exercising energy to scratch into the wood created a direct connection between the material and me. It became a bit like my nerve fibers play in the wood when I draw with an intuitive approach. It is the traces we leave behind, relationships and interactions I take with me into the works, in borderland between figuration and abstraction. I work with organic natural materials that reflect our existence, growth and life.”
